About the Internship

Our BIO5 Institute Ambassador Internship program is a unique two-semester opportunity open to all University of Arizona undergraduate majors. Students will work one-on-one with a BIO5 staff member on a project of their choice. This can include (but isn’t limited to): business administration, digital marketing, educational outreach, event planning, grant writing, graphic design, and more.

Our interns are expected to attend professional development workshops and commit to 40 credit hours to earn two internship credits through The A Center (TLS 393/493).

Application requirements:

  • University of Arizona undergraduate student
  • Be able to take 300/400 level classes (advanced standing)
  • Commit to 40 credit hours/semester for 1 credit during fall and spring semesters
  • Not currently employed by University of Arizona (per DCC/UA policy)

Applications open each summer with new cohorts announced each fall. The next round of applications will open in summer 2025.

BIO5 Ambassador History

The BIO5 Ambassador program was initially launched in 2012 as a club geared towards science outreach events and tours. In 2017, then U of A undergraduate student and BIO5 Ambassador secretary Gina Coniglario had a vision to transform the club into an internship that would have a larger impact on the students while at the same time contributing to the mission of the BIO5 Institute.

Today, interns are selected to work with BIO5 staff on projects including digital marketing, event planning, and science communication, allowing them to explore an interest and personalize a learning experience in an area related to their career goals. Previous projects have included the Inspiring Women in STEM event, the Science Making Humanity Better panel, and posters for environmentally friendly practices in the labs and offices.
